Sensory Activity

Icy Fun
  • Using a muffin tin or ice cube try, freeze multiple toys in water over night. Give your child a large bin or tray with the frozen items, some warm water, and some tools to help with the melting process. Allow him/her to explore.

Some tools you can try: watering can, turkey baster, syringe, eye dropper, cups, spoons

As you melt away the ice of each item, you can:

    • talk about the different temperature of the warm water verses the cold ice
    • talk about the items you find
    • name the color of the items you find
    • if you use letters, you can talk about which letters are in her/his name
    • if you use numbers, you can practice counting to that number together
    • sort the items
