School Nurse
    Mrs. Candy Beswick
Welcome to the Hickory Elementary School Nurse web page.  Here you will find a lot of valuable information about current school policy, health forms, and relevant web sites relating to wellness.  Please feel free to contact me at (317) 544-6300 Ext 6325 or email chbeswick@avon-schools.org regarding any health concerns you may have for your child while attending Hickory Elementary.

  • Student Illness
Attending school on a regular basis is important for each child's academic and social development.  If your child is absent, it is harder to keep up with the class. Our policy is that students should not attend school if they have a temperature of 101 degrees or above, or if they have vomited or have had diarrhea in the past 12 hours.
They must be fever-free without the aid of medication 24 hours before returning to school.
Students should not return to school after being treated for pink eye or strep infections until they have been on medication and fever free for a full 24 hours.  Students with ringworm may be sent to school only if the lesion is covered and treatment has been implemented.  Please call me with any questions or concerns you might have about sending your child to school.

  • Phone Numbers and Emergency Contacts
In order to facilitate reaching parents of sick children, please remember to update emergency information with any change in home, work, and cell phone numbers.  Please also supply names and phone numbers of friends and/or relatives who can be called if parents are not available.

Parents who are going out of town should send a note to school with information regarding who will be responsible for their children in the parents' absence.

  • Head Lice Policy

Avon Community Schools has a "NO LIVE LICE POLICY". This means that children may not attend school with head lice. Children who have head lice will be sent home for appropriate treatment and combing with a lice comb. Nits must be removed before students return to school. After treatment, the student may return to school with limited nits at the discretion of the school nurse.  The parents must accompany the child back to school and report to the clinic before attending class.
