    Course Overview

The Algebra I curriculum is driven primarily by the Indiana Academic Standards.  These standards direct the curriculum to contain a wide array of algebraic concepts, such as operations with real numbers, solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, relations and functions, systems of linear equations, polynomials, quadratic functions, and algebraic fractions.  Algebra I provides a level of algebraic knowledge which is absolutely necessary for higher level mathematics courses such as Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

    Course Expectations

Students should come to class prepared to take notes every day.  These notes provide assistance when working on homework and are an excellent study tool when preparing for tests.  In addition to your notebook, always bring pencils, erasers, a calculator, and your textbook unless you are told otherwise.

Students should expect to receive some sort of assignment on most days.  While some of these assignments may be finished in class, others will need to be completed at home.  I expect all students to complete and turn in assignments 100% of the time!!!

Upon completion of each chapter, students will be assessed through tests and quizzes.  Students will receive a study guide prior to all tests.

    Grades

Quarterly grades for this course are determined by students’ performance on daily assignments, tests, and quizzes.  Daily assignments account for 25%, quizzes account for 25%, and chapter tests account for 50%.

    Semester Exams

Each semester will conclude with an exam which assesses all of the academic standards that were covered during the semester.  Study guides will be provided prior to quarter exams.  Semester exams are worth 15% of the semester grade.
