E-Learning

student learning at home

There are two kinds of e-learning days: Traditional and Live. Traditional e-learning days allow students to work at their own time and pace while the instruction that occurs during live e-learning days happens in real-time.

By law, Indiana schools can use three traditional e-learning days per year. Avon Schools typically schedules a traditional e-learning day on Election Day each November. The day provides an important opportunity for administrators and educators to complete training and planning activities. We reserve two days in the event of inclement weather or in case there are other factors that would prevent students from attending school in-person.

Avon Schools will communicate with families in advance of scheduled e-learning days and as soon as possible in the event of weather closures or other events.

  • If you are using a personal device at home (like a parent's work computer) and someone else is already signed in to a Microsoft or Google account on that device, it will cause a conflict and not let you log in. Try using a different web browser altogether, or an incognito/private window. To do so, click on the menu (top right dashes or dots) and choose incognito, inprivate or private window.

Understanding E-Learning Options

Avon Schools has the option to utilize e-learning days in situations where it is not possible for students to be in school. Reasons Avon Schools may implement an e-learning day include severe weather, widespread illness, to allow time and space for parent-teacher conferences, or allow staff to participate in professional development.

traditional e-learning

How does it work?

Avon Schools has used traditional e-learning days for years. On traditional e-learning days, teachers post activities for students that can be completed at each student's individual pace.

How do I access assignments?

Students access their assignments and activities by logging into Schoology. Once logged in, students can click 'Courses' at the top. K-4 students only use the 'Homeroom' course. Students in grades 5-8 may use multiple courses. Teachers will provide directions.

When are assignments due?

Assignments given on traditional e-learning days are due three school days after the e-learning day. This is to ensure students have plenty of time to complete assignments and to get help if they need it. See the FAQ for a handy reference table for due dates.

What do these days include?

Students' days might include discussion board interactions, quizzes, polls, digital documents, recorded teacher audio or video, recorded slides with teacher narration, and self-paced learning.

live e-learning

How does it work?

Live e-learning takes place throughout the school day and requires students to log in to attend virtual classes at pre-scheduled times throughout the day.

How do I access content?

Live e-learning takes place on Schoology. Links login information, and instructions will be communicated to students by their teachers. Once logged in, students can navigate to their courses and join their teachers and classmates in real-time.

When are assignments due?

Live e-learning day schoolwork is treated just as if students were attending class in person. If students are not present, they will be marked absent.  Teachers will work with students who were absent to ensure they are able to make up work that was missed.

What do these days include?

Live e-learning days happen in real-time. Classroom interactions are dynamic and interactive and might include presentations, text chat, instant messaging discussions, audio or video, quizzes, and polling.
