Intermediate (Grades 5-6)
Our intermediate schools provide a 5th- and 6th-grade curriculum combined with the Indiana Academic State Standards. These standards provide the master plan for learning. Courses are required by the Indiana State Board of Education and necessary for the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
The intermediate school concept is designed to transition the primary 4th grade elementary student from a more self-contained classroom to a two- or three-teacher team in the 5th and 6th grades. This gradual transition is most conducive to entering the departmentalized team teaching concept of the middle schools.
AIS East and West have certified teachers in Visual Art, Exploring Music, Orchestra, Band, Choir, and Physical Education. Each school also has a full-time counselor who is available for students and families. Additionally, each school has certified teachers and instructional assistants for students with special needs.
