Students and employees are our most important first responders.Students and employees are the eyes and ears of what is happening before, during, and after school. Equipping them with a fast, secure, anonymous reporting tool enhances our layers of school safety and better promote a “see something, say something, do something” school culture.

STOPit is a mobile app that empowers any student, parent, or employee in Avon to anonymously report school safety issues and reach out for help if they or a peer are facing a personal crisis or experiencing situations such as bullying, theft, mental health concerns, violence, sexual harassment, substance abuse, or any other student safety concern.

We are grateful for the fine group of individuals who work hard every day to keep our students and employees safe and secure.

Our School Resource Officers (SROs) are a regular presence in and around our schools. They focus on building quality relationships with students and staff using a triad model in which they act as teacher, informal counselor, and law enforcement officer. They lead by example to promote and maintain a positive image of law enforcement for our students and our community.

Our emergency response procedures are based on national best practices.

We dedicate ourselves to preparation and prevention because the best way to keep our schools safe and secure is to stop anything bad from happening. However, we have built extensive plans — using the best school safety information available across the nation — to respond if something happens.

Our goal is to maintain safe and secure learning environments. On occasion, it is necessary to respond to internal and external threats by issuing orders to increase safety alert levels in our schools. We use the following procedures and clear, concise language to ensure we respond effectively, and it is always our practice to communicate timely, accurate information with affected parents/caregivers and staff via ParentSquare whenever a situation occurs that could cause you to be concerned.

	Hold In Place When a hold in place order is issued, teachers make sure students are in classrooms and they continue to teach.  This order is issued to raise awareness that hallways and common areas need to be kept clear. The most common cause of this order is a situation where there is a medical issue that requires space and privacy so treatment can be administered.
	Secure the Building A secure the building order is issued when something is taking place outside of the school. We ensure that students are kept inside and that traffic in and out of the building is paused while the day's schedule continues. If necessary, an officer remains onsite to monitor traffic. The most likely scenario for this alert is when local police or fire personnel are working in the vicinity of the school.
	Lockdown When the lockdown order is given, teachers and school personnel are made aware that there is a threat inside the school building. In this rare scenario, the most common response for staff members is to ensure everyone is inside classrooms or offices, doors are locked, lights are out, and everyone is out of the line of sight. No one is allowed to enter or leave the school.
	Evacuate The most likely scenarios that would cause an evacuation order to be given are the presence of smoke/fire or a mechanical/system failure in the school building that makes it unsafe to remain indoors. Students and staff head to the nearest exit and teachers take attendance when they arrive at a rally point away from the building.
	Shelter The most common cause for a shelter order is a tornado or severe weather warning. Occupants on upper floors move to the lowest level of the school building, keep away from exterior doors and windows, and remain in interior rooms. Teachers take attendance when everyone is in a safe place and resume activities when the all-clear is issued.

Emergency Response Procedures

In most cases, transport can begin within 36-48 hours.

• Parents should contact the school of enrollment to request student be added to a bus route. 
• School secretary verifies address information and communicates request with Transportation.
• Transportation confirms bus detail with school secretary.
• Secretary shares bus detail with parent.
• Parents of preschool/kindergarten students must complete the 'Preschool & Kindergarten Bus Stop Pick Up Authorization Form'  by logging in to PowerSchool Parent Portal. Once logged in, click on 'Forms' then the 'General Forms' tab.  (No student will be released to a person other than a parent or guardian if the form is not completed.)

If you are the parent or guardian of a senior who attends Avon High School and they are in need of bus service for the upcoming school year, you must contact the transportation office to arrange bus service. Seniors are not automatically placed on the school bus roster at the beginning of the year. If a student intends to ride a bus, transportation must be notified as soon as possible. This process must be completed even if the student was a bus rider the previous school year.

Students learn best when they have a healthy lunch. All lunches are served with all five components: fruit, vegetable, protein, grain, and milk. Students can select 3-5 different components for their tray. All entrees include a protein and grain and all lunches must include a fruit or veggie. While we encourage students to take a full tray, we understand that sometimes students may not want all items offered. Students can decline up to two components as long as their tray contains a fruit or a vegetable.

Meal prices remain unchanged for the 2026-27 school year: 

• $2.15 for breakfast,
• $3.15 for lunch in grades K-5, and 
• $3.25 for lunch in grades 6-12.

We are dedicated to keeping our students and schools healthy and safe.

Our school clinics are operated in partnership with Hendricks Regional Health and staffed by dedicated nursing professionals.

If your student requires medical attention during the school year, they'll receive expert care. In order to provide excellent care to your child, we use an online service called SchoolCare. This tool enables you to log immunization information, physical exam results, and information about medical information. The website and mobile applications store your child's health information securely and in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

NOTE: Parents, you will receive the SchoolCare enrollment invitation for the 2026-27 school year via email on or around July 16. Be sure to check your inbox or your junk/spam mail folder if you don't see it in your inbox. Important Nursing Updates for Parents and Guardians

All medical documentation must be submitted to the clinic annually and updated at the beginning of each school year. Contact your child's school nurse with questions and visit the School Nursing webpage for more information.

Severe allergies/food allergies, asthma, diabetes, or seizures

If your student has a severe allergy, asthma, diabetes, or seizures and requires an epi-pen, inhaler, glucagon, or seizure management in the clinic, please have your student’s provider complete the appropriate action plan for each condition. If your student has an epi-pen, inhaler, glucagon, or emergency seizure medication that will be kept in the clinic, a Hold Harmless form must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian. All prescription medications must have the prescription label attached to the bottle, inhaler, or box.  If your student needs to self-carry their emergency medication, please contact your school nurse for the appropriate required form that requires a doctor’s signature. If the clinic needs to share or communicate information with your student's provider, please sign the Consent for Mutual Exchange form. 

Other Health Concerns/Medical Conditions

If your student has a medical condition that will need to be managed at school, please have their provider supply orders and documentation to the clinic. If the clinic needs to share or communicate information with your student's provider, please sign the Consent for Mutual Exchange form.

Updated Clinic Guidelines

• Morning medications are to be given at home prior to the students’ arrival at school.
• Only medications necessary for the student to remain at school will be given during the school day.
• A parent/guardian must complete their student’s SchoolCare enrollment and give permission for your student to receive ibuprofen, acetaminophen (Tylenol), or Tums. The nurses will not administer these stocked medications and parents will not be called to receive permission.

Vision and Hearing Screenings

Per Indiana Code 20-34-312, vision screenings will be administered to students is grade 1, 3, 5, and 8.  If you do not want your child to participate in these screenings, please contact your school nurse.

Per Indiana Code 20-34-3-1, hearing screenings will be administered to students in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10. If you do not want your student to participate in these screenings, please contact your school nurse.

In accordance with requirements from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), all immunization or exemption documents (if applicable) must be completed within 20 days from the start of school. Students without appropriate documentation will be excluded from school.

If your student's immunizations/vaccinations are not up to date, please make an appointment to receive the appropriate immunizations/vaccinations. They can be administered by your doctor's office, the Hendricks County Health Department, and most pharmacies.  Documentation of these vaccinations must be on file at school. Under Indiana Code 20-34-4 state law requires Avon Community School Corporation to exclude non–compliant students from school without proper immunizations and documentation.

If your student does not receive vaccinations/immunizations due to religious reasons, please complete and return the Religious Objection form located on the School Nursing webpage. If your student does not receive vaccinations/immunizations due to a medical condition, please have your student's provider complete the Vaccine Medical Exemption form. This form requires a physician's signature.

Our team of highly trained counselors and social workers are on-hand at each of our schools. In addition to being another friendly face and helping hand, they focus on helping students build core competencies in self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, relational skills, and responsible decision making.
