    Phonics Patterns/Spelling:

    • The high frequency words your child needs to be able to spell are: about/other
    • This week’s word patterns that your child should be able to spell are: words with th/wh (thin, bath, when)


    Math: This week we will be studying cubes and pyramids, as well as looking at the number 100.  We will be taking a quick check on Friday over the shapes.  All the children need to be able to identify triangle, rhombus, trapezoid, square, rectangle, cube, cylinder and pyramid.  Please review these shapes at home nightly. 


    100’s Collections:  I have asked students to bring in 100 items for the 100th day of school.  Items should fit in the Ziploc bag.  We will be using these items for activates on Wednesday.  Please do not go out and buy things.  Anything will work.  Pennies, cereal, pasta, skittles, cards.  The kids have good ideas from our class discussion. 


    Second Steps:  The students are working on calming down when they have strong feelings.  We are using the following steps: stop, name your feeling, take a deep breath.  Calming-down skills can help students manage strong feelings.  Belly breathing helps lower blood pressure and heart rate, which clams the body.  Conversely, noisy, fast breathing and breathing from the chest can cause students to feel more upset. 


    Scholastic Book Orders:  Scholastic is a great place to find books for your reader.  There are many options available online as well as those you can find in the flyer.  Orders will be due on January 22.  Our online classroom code is GML6Q.
