Mr. Keith Ziolkowski

Keith Ziolkowski is Orchestra Director at Avon Middle School South and North in Avon, Indiana.  He has taught in the community of Avon for three years. In addition, “Mr. Z” assists with the high school orchestras and has a very active double bass studio. Mr. Ziolkowski also serves as the Indiana American String Teachers Secretary.  Mr. Ziolkowski had the privilege and honor of taking the Avon Middle School Chamber Orchestra to the world renown Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in December of 2015. Midwest, is the highlight of a directors and students musical career.  Prior to his arrival at Avon, Keith worked as the Creative Arts Department Chair (Music, Art, Physical Education and Health) and Director of Orchestras for Richmond Community Schools in Richmond, Indiana.  During his three year tenure with Richmond, Keith was able to return the high school orchestra back to Gold Performance ratings at ISSMA competition, reintroduce an annual and highly anticipated musical each year, increase beginning enrollment by 45% and an overall participation increase in grades 6 to 12 of 33%.

 Keith attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He majored in Music Education, minored in History, and became proficient on the Double Bass with the help of Professor Dr. Hans Sturm (now at University of Nebraska-Lincoln).  He is an active member of American String Teacher’s Association, National Association for Music Education, and the International Society of Bassists.  While at Ball State, Keith obtained several music education awards through Ball State including the Theodore Presser Scholar, the NAfME Certificate of Achievement for Commitment and Dedication to Music Education, the Ball State University Outstanding Future Music Educator Award and induction into Pi Kappa Lamba.  Keith has also had the privilege of working with bassists and arrangers John Clayton, Frank Proto, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Catalin Rotaru, and the ensemble Time for Three.

Keith is a native of South Bend, Indiana where he attended Washington High School.   He currently lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with his beautiful wife Brittany, their 7 month old son Hunter and Goldendoodle, Murphy.  In his spare time Keith enjoys wood working, model railroading, and volunteering at local train museums.
