Mrs. Elizabeth Tharp

I am Mrs. Tharp and I will be teaching Math 7 and Pre-Algebra on the Grizzlies for the 2018-2019 school year.  I graduated from Indiana University in 2008 with a degree in elementary education, decided to go back to graduate school while teaching and graduated from Ball State University in 2012 with a master's degree in Educational Leadership.  My previous years of teaching have been spent teaching at Avon Intermediate School East and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in Columbus, Indiana.

I am originally from Fishers, Indiana and graduated from Hamilton Southeastern High School. We moved from Bartholomew County a little over four years ago. My husband and I are proud parents to our four year old son, Reed.

Our math classes are designed to challenge student thinking through collaboration with an emphasis on justifying answers. Both classes will engage students at a higher depth of knowledge and will develop concrete ideas rooted in number sense.

A typical class period runs as such:

10 minutes: Students complete an algorithm-based problem and review basic computation procedures.

5 minutes:Class briefing about the topic for the day.

40 minutes: Students work through tasks in small groups with the teacher circulating between small groups and guiding conversations.

5 minutes: Class de-brief on topic.
