About White Oak Early Learning Center
Avon Community School Corporation is thrilled to announce that White Oak Early Learning Center opens its doors to students for the 2021-22 school year. For the first time, we are able to assemble our entire developmental preschool and community preschool programs under one roof. In addition to offering a greater variety of preschool and pre-kindergarten programming to our community, White Oak ELC allows us to offer inclusionary settings for special education students.
Community preschool options include:
- Morning or afternoon programs (determined by age)
- Five-day program
- Three-day program (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
- Two-day program (Tuesday, Thursday)
District leaders are assembling curriculum that is custom tailored to the academic and developmental needs of preschool and pre-kindergarten students. White Oak ELC educators will teach foundational academic curriculum and they will provide multiple social-emotional learning opportunities for students. All this effort is designed to prepare our youngest learners not only for kindergarten but for a lifelong love of learning.

Why a dedicated preschool facility?
White Oak (built in 1963) will undergo a renovation to allow it to serve as a centralized preschool beginning with the 2021-22 school year. Converting White Oak into a centralized preschool is more cost effective than the renovations required to make it an equitable elementary school. And, moving preschool to a central location also frees up classroom space at other elementary schools and provides our preschool with a permanent home as it has moved from Cedar, Hickory, Pine Tree, Maple, and White Oak in recent years.
Additionally, the current White Oak gymnasium will be converted to professional development/meeting space. Some classrooms at White Oak will also be used for district occupational and physical therapists, as well allow future growth in preschool.

Meet Mrs. Mize
"I am excited for the opening of the White Oak Early Learning Center and the opportunity to serve as Principal when it opens in July 2021. Our community and developmental preschool students and staff are currently at three different elementary buildings. Having everyone under one roof is exciting and we cannot wait for the journey to begin. Please watch the website for the most up-to-date information, as well as photos of our renovation, which begins in June!"
