2024 Demographic Study
2024 Demographic Study
At a special working session, Dr. Jerome McKibben presented a comprehensive demographic study to the Avon Board of School trustees, district leaders, and the community.
Below, you can view the live stream presentation, download the complete report, and see an abbreviated summary of a few of the key takeaways.
Summary
The following are just a few of the many conclusions presented in the report. For a complete executive summary, see page 3 of the report.
- The Avon Community School Corporation will experience modest population and enrollment growth over the next 10 years, primarily due to a growing elderly population, an increase in empty nest housing stock, and relatively large 12th grade cohorts leaving the school system and the area.
- Total district enrollment is forecasted to increase by 350 students, or 3.4%, from Academic Year 2023-24 through AY 2028-29. Total enrollment is expected to further increase by 79 students, or 0.7%, from AY2028-29 through AY2033-34.
- The dominant in-migration flow to the district continues to occur in the 0-to-9 and 25-to-44-year-old age groups. These tend to be young families with school age or pre-school age children, which helps increase the size of the district’s relatively small 0-4 age groups.
- The average size of the graduating 12th grade class in the Avon Community School Corporation district will be 895 students from AY2024 to AY2033. This compares to 740 over the last five years.
- The total elementary enrollment (K-4) will be fairly stable over the next 10 years.
