AHS Chamber Orchestra Wows Statehouse Crowd

AHS Chamber Orchestra Wows Statehouse Crowd

A large crowd of Indiana students, music educators, government officials, nonprofit leaders, and appreciators of the arts gathered at the Indiana Statehouse on February 14 for Arts Advocacy Day, sponsored by the Indiana Arts Education Network.

In a room crowded with Hoosier dignitaries like Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch, Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner, and State Senator John Crane, the Avon High School Chamber Orchestra stole the show.

"It was an incredible honor for our Chamber Orchestra to receive an invitation to perform at the Statehouse on a day set aside to highlight exemplary school music programs across the Hoosier state," says Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham. "I am so proud of each talented performer and their leaders, Dean Westman and Joel Powell."

Westman and Powell were on-hand not only to direct the orchestra, but also to be recognized for the 'Patio Recitals' series of concerts performed at the Life's Journey hospice facility in Avon during the height of the pandemic.

Here in Avon, we can be incredibly proud of the Chamber Orchestra and all of our outstanding Performing Arts programs.

Experience part of the performance on Facebook.
