AHS Earns AP Honors

Avon High School, recently recognized as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School for academic achievements, has continued its impressive streak of recognitions. 

According to College Board, the national non-profit organization that clears a path for all students to own their future through the Advanced Placement (AP) Program and more, AHS has been recognized for the 2023 AP School Honor Roll "for developing an AP program that creates a college-going culture and gives students opportunities to earn college credit and to maximize their college outcomes." Not only that, AHS is also honored with the 2023 AP Access Award "for ensuring AP coursework is equally available to students no matter their backgrounds" (College Board).

This prestigious annual recognition program celebrates schools with AP programs are going above and beyond to not only bring students into participation in AP programs, but to support them through their journeys to college-readiness. The program recognizes high schools that meet the following criteria:

  • College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating class took at least 1 AP Exam during high school. In the AHS class of '23, 57% of students took at least 1 AP Exam.
  • College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating class scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school. From the AHS class of '23, 40% scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam.
  • College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating class took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At AHS, 17% of the class of '23 took 5 or more AP Exams.
  • Access: The percentage of AP Exam takers who are underrepresented minority and/or low-income students mirrors the school's overall student demographics. The AHS class of '23 surpassed this benchmark. For example, 38 students from under-represented groups were awarded National Recognition from College Board.

These are outstanding achievements, further distinguishing AHS as a leader in providing academic opportunities for students and supporting them through their educational careers.
