AHS Hosts Alternative Graduation Ceremony

AHS Hosts Alternative Graduation Ceremony

Several dozen educators, assistants, administrators, family members, and friends gathered at Avon High School for an alternative graduation ceremony for seven incredible graduates of Avon's special education programming.

On Thursday, May 21, one week before approximately 850 members of the AHS class of 2026 receive their diplomas at Commencement, a smaller but no less significant ceremony took place to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of seven students in the presence of many of the people who helped them get there.

Members of the Avon Symphony Orchestra played "Pomp & Circumstance" as the procession entered the room and took their seats. AHS Principal Matt Shockley gave a meaningful message before, one by one, the adults who know each student best introduced them.

  • John was introduced by Teacher Megan Stehle
  • Sophia was introduced by Transition Coordinator Kimberly Lobosky
  • Jonathan was introduced by Teacher Grace Agan
  • Tyler was introduced by Kimberly Lobosky
  • Travis was introduced by Teacher Brittany Tackett
  • Anna was introduced by Megan Stehle

After introductions, Mr. Shockley awarded each student their hard-earned diplomas and certificates.

Assistant Principal Mr. King thanked everyone in attendance and closed by pointing out that it takes a village to raise a child. He expressed gratitude to all the educators and family members in attendance for all the love, hard work, and dedication they had each invested in these graduates.

Each graduate left their mark on AHS and each one will be missed. We are excited to see what the future holds for each of them.

Congratulations, graduates!
