AHS Model UN has Big Year

AHS Model UN has Big Year

by Catherine Lewis

This was a big year for this Model UN. They were hit hard by the COVID years – not being able to go to conferences – and then me taking over as club sponsor along with Julia Hoffman. We have emerged from the transitions.

Model UN is a fantastic club for students interested in international affairs, conflict resolution, and honing their negotiation and debate skills.

We attended the IU Model UN conference in March and then were named the Outstanding Delegation at Marian University’s inaugural conference. We will be partnering with Marian to bring their club members to our club meetings to lead mock conferences and learn about the different components of a conference.

We have three graduating seniors who are each going to great college programs. Tyler Yenerich and Adam Foudali are both headed to Purdue. Liam Hoffman, our club president, is headed to Princeton. He will study international relations and apply what he’s learned from AHS in speech and debate club and as a Super Delegate in Model UN.

We are so proud of these students.

Avon is now a member of the Council of the Crossroads which consists of regional schools with Model UN clubs.

About Model UN
Model UN simulations engage hundreds of thousands of students each year, helping them to learn more about the principles of the UN and how it functions. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as students. Learn more at un.org/en/mun.
