by Avon Optimist Club
Mercy Olaniyan, a senior at Avon High School, qualified to advance to the Indiana South District Optimist Oratorical Finals contest based on a topic of "How Optimism Has Guided Me Through Trying Times”. Adelyn Wyndham, also an AHS senior, recently won the Optimist Club of Avon’s essay contest based on a theme of "How Optimism Has Paved My Road to Success”.
Mercy will advance to the Indiana South District finals (to be held at Kimball International Headquarters, 1600 Royal Street in Jasper, Indiana on April 26) with the chance to win a $2,500 scholarship, and then possibly onto the Optimist International Regional/World Championship for a chance to win an additional scholarship. Adelyn won a gold medal and a cash prize for her entry, which will be judged at the District level along with winners from other Optimist Clubs in the Indiana South District. College scholarships are available for top winners at the District level.
Congratulations, Mercy and Adelyn!
