AHS Students Add 3rd Dimension to Kindergarten Drawings
Sarah Fowler and the students in her Ceramics class at Avon High School have been working to add a third dimension to two-dimensional drawings created by kindergarten students in Katie Bonilla's Art classes at Sycamore Elementary.
"It all started with an Instagram reel that I — along with a few other art teachers including Katie — saw and got inspired by," said Mrs. Fowler. "We decided to make it happen."
Mrs. Bonilla created worksheets for her kindergarten students and asked them to create drawings of monsters. She collected the drawings and sent them to Mrs. Fowler. Her high school students have been hard at work turning the 2D kindergarten monster drawings into 3D ceramic monsters. According to Bonilla, "We also had some help with monster making from a few National Art Honor Society students and some of Mr. Copeland's Ceramics students."
The results are incredible!
"We plan to display the kindergarten monsters with the high school monsters at the AHS Student Art Show," said Fowler. After the art show, nearly 100 Sycamore kindergarten students will receive their original drawings and the ceramic versions — a gift from the AHS students.
What an exciting way to make art come to life for high school and kindergarten students!
Want to see these monsters and hundreds of additional works by our talented students? Plan to attend the AHS Student Art Show on Tuesday, May 7, from 5:30-7:30 pm, in the AHS Commons.
