AMS North Student Wins Civics Bee

AMS North Student Wins Civics Bee

Avon Middle School North Principal Matt Hines recently opened his email and found out he had a message from Plainfield Community Middle School Principal Kyle Tutterow. The message was about an AMS North student who took home first prize in their inaugural Civics Bee. Mr. Hines and Mrs. Tutterow have given their permission to share the message.

We hosted a Civics Bee last night at PCMS in collaboration with our Plainfield Chamber of Commerce. Your student, Davis, received first place.

We had 103 essay submissions. The top 20 students were selected to participate in the Civics Bee based on their essays. The 20 students then participated in two rounds of questions related to civics. The top five scores from the question rounds were asked to provide a summary of their essays, and then the judges asked the students questions about their essays.

Davis won $500 in cash prize, a Galaxy Tablet, and a trophy! I've attached a picture for you. He will move on to the state level. This is our first time to host this event. I am unsure of the exact process for the state competition. However, Davis' mom has been in contact with Brad Dubois at the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce. Brad will take the lead in informing Davis of the next steps for the state competition.

Congratulations, Davis! Well done!
