Avon Academy Celebrates Inaugural Graduation

The Simon Youth Academy at Avon opened its doors for the first time in July. Just five months later, on December 20, 2023, Avon Academy honored its first group of 12 graduates.

The formal ceremony, hosted in the Avon Middle School South auditorium, was attended by Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham, Assistant Superintendents Dr. Michael Sullivan and Carrie Alday, members of the Avon Board of School Trustees, AHS Principal Matt Shockley and several AHS administrators, family members, and friends.

Dr. Wyndham charged the graduates to continue striving and pursuing their goals. And in a heartfelt message, Avon Academy Coordinator Kellie Rodkey told the students they have made her the proudest she has been in her career as an educator. She praised them for overcoming obstacles and remaining true to their goals of completing their high school careers in Avon. She shared that she envisions bright futures for the students and urged them to remain in touch; Avon Academy isn't just there to support them through graduation but beyond.

Graduates, family members, friends, and staff lingered after the ceremony and enjoyed a reception in the Avon Academy cafeteria.
