Avon Choirs Bring Joy to Riley Children's Health

Avon Choirs Bring Joy to Riley Children's Health

The following is an email Lauren Servos, Avon Parent and Manager of Creative Arts Therapies at Riley Children’s Health, sent to AHS Principal Matt Shockley. She has given permission to share it here.

I manage the Creative Arts Therapies department and the Arts in Health program at Riley Children’s Health. On December 2, we hosted our Day of Music — a celebration you can catch glimpses of on Riley Children’s Health’s Instagram and Facebook posts.

It was incredible to witness the Avon community come together for one another and for Riley patients and families. The entire lobby was filled with love, support, kindness, and music. Lauren Servos

I was thrilled when Leah Trigg reached out last month to ask if the Avon choirs could participate. Ninety Avon High School students performed in the Riley Hospital lobby, and they were professional, kind, and absolutely outstanding musicians.

The mission of our Arts in Health program is to enrich the healing environment at Riley Children’s Health through the transformative power of the arts. By bringing music, visual arts, dance, and live performances into the hospital, we create moments of joy, connection, and creativity for children, families, and team members, nurturing the spirit and celebrating resilience.

Your Avon students truly embodied that mission yesterday! Several Riley patients and families attended the performance, which I expected and was so happy to see. What I didn’t expect was the overwhelming number of Avon parents who work on campus showing up to support their choir students. It was incredible to witness the Avon community come together for one another and for Riley patients and families. The entire lobby was filled with love, support, kindness, and music.

Thank you for creating opportunities for your students to share their talents and use the privilege of a top-notch music education to make a real difference in the world. Lauren Servos

As an Avon parent myself (with one daughter at AMS North, one at Maple, and their little sister who’s only three) I was honored to be part of this moment. One of the reasons we chose Avon Schools was because of the exceptional music education opportunities. Seeing your choir students give back to the community — and watching the Avon community rally behind them — further solidified our love for this district.

Thank you for creating opportunities for your students to share their talents and use the privilege of a top-notch music education to make a real difference in the world.
