Avon Selected for National School Safety Pilot Program

Avon Schools has been selected to participate in an exclusive pilot program for a national school safety initiative called Project Unite.

As part of the pilot program, Avon Schools will:

  • receive free training through an in-person, two-day workshop conducted by school safety experts,
  • receive a no-cost professional security assessment,
  • work to implement/enhance at least one violence prevention initiative in the spring 2022 semester, and
  • receive technical assistance on violence prevention strategies.

"I'm thrilled that Avon Schools has been chosen to participate in this pilot program," said School Safety Coordinator Deb Swain-Bayless. "We have done a great job of keeping our schools safe and are constantly looking for ways to strengthen our efforts. This program will help us do just that. The information we gather will inform the national rollout. Being part of the pilot program will give us a head start due to our interactions with nationally recognized school safety experts."

According to the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), "Project Unite is a school violence prevention initiative developed by NASRO in partnership with the University of Colorado–Boulder Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence, I Love U Guys Foundation, Safe and Sound Schools, the National Police Foundation, and other school safety experts. It is funded through a grant issued by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services."
