Avon's Oldest School Building Enters New Era

Avon's Oldest School Building Enters New Era

Avon Middle School South has been serving Avon students since the mid-1950s. Generations of students have walked its halls, so it was both exciting to reminisce about the past and share excitement about the future when alumni, friends, students, families, staff, and design-build partners Performance Services gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, July 21.

Attendees heard a number of presentations from district and school leaders and partners including a moving presentation from Cindy Simmons, a proud member of the AHS class of 1972 and member of the Board of School Trustees. Mrs. Simmons, a retired teacher, spent her entire 13 years as an Avon student in the building at 7199 East US Highway 36. As excited as she and the other AHS alumni in attendance were to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony, they were even more excited to tour the renovated hallways, classrooms, and gym as well as to see the newly added Orchestra classroom.

The school building stands proudly in the center of town and is a testament to our school corporation's proud past and bright future — refreshed to serve even more generations of students.
