Dean Westman is the '24 Outstanding Indiana Music Educator

When he finishes conducting the orchestra, in the midst of a standing ovation, what does the conductor do? He bows quickly and then he steps aside, graciously sweeps his hand toward the musicians, and lets them enjoy the spotlight.

This is the character that guides Avon High School's Performing Arts Department Chair and Director of Orchestras Dean Westman. Eager to give credit elsewhere, he deserves the spotlight for a few moments longer because:
