Episode 53: Jobs for America's Graduates Program

The Avon High School Jobs for America's Grads (JAG) program is an excellent illustration of our mission to make sure that all belong, learn, and grow. According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, JAG is a "state-based, national non-profit organization dedicated to helping high school students of promise who have experienced challenging or traumatic life experiences achieve success through graduation. JAG is a resiliency-building workforce program that helps students learn in-demand employability skills and provides a bridge to post-secondary education and career advancement opportunities."

Listen in as Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham is joined by AHS JAG Specialist Elena Stidham and two outstanding JAG students who have recently won statewide recognition for their success. Senior Neva Verbik earned the prestigious title of Indiana's 2023 Outstanding Senior. She will compete in the national JAG competition this month in Orlando. Junior Esther Bankole-Brown won first place in the Employability Skills competition at this year's state finals. Both students talk about how JAG has impacted them and how it is helping to set them up to pursue their dreams and plans for the future.
