Mindful Artists to Present at Symposium

Mindful Artists to Present at Symposium

Ashlee Harmon (6th grade ELA/SS teacher at Avon Intermediate School West) is taking a group of students from her Mindful Artists club to present at the Butler University Educational Neuroscience Symposium on February 19.

The following West students in the Mindful Artist Club will be presenting at the conference: Corinne Bender, Mya Callahan, Jonathan Casillas, Paityn Clark, Nora Kendall, Xander Sarkar, and Gurshan Singh.

Mrs. Harmon is passionate about neuroscience and brings this to life at AIS West through her Mindful Artists after-school club. She is also planning an upcoming book study for staff. We were able to secure 10 spots for our teachers at the symposium so additional staff can continue learning, too. This is such an important topic for all of us to be aware of and continue learning about as research continues to grow in this area, especially in the trying times with the current pandemic.

This symposium features educators, neuroscience researchers, and authors (including the world-renowned Dr. Lori Desautels) who will speak about how we can use mindfulness/trauma-responsive strategies in our classrooms to promote student well-being and engagement.

We are so excited for Mrs. Harmon and our West students to be a part of this experience!
