National Speech & Debate All-Americans

National Speech & Debate All-Americans

Avon High School Speech & Debate team members Katherine Langford and Connor Brownfield have earned the distinction of being named Academic All-Americans by the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA). Of the 141,000 student members of the NSDA, fewer than 1% can boast achieving the academic rigor, competitive speech and debate success, and personal excellence required to earn this honor.

As the first members of the team to achieve this distinction, Katherine and Connor feel a little awkward getting recognized. They were quick to point out that several of their teammates are close to earning the same award.

"We probably have 3-4 seniors who are 60 points away," said Speech & Debate Coach Linda Langford, "I am sure they will be named early next semester."

According to the NSDA, "To be eligible for Academic All-American, students must have earned at least 750 points, completed at least five semesters of high school, demonstrated outstanding character and leadership, and earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)."

Congratulations, Katherine and Connor!
