Pine Tree Young Leaders ImPRESS

Pine Tree Young Leaders ImPRESS

By Megan Gain, 5th Grade Teacher and Pine Tree Young Leaders Club Sponsor

The first meeting of the Pine Tree Elementary School Young Leaders Club was held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. At the meeting, the Young Leaders were asked to share ideas about ways to help at Pine Tree. They generated several ideas, and creating a school newspaper emerged as a top priority. With the help of Mrs. Gain, a 5th grade teacher and the Young Leaders Club sponsor, and Mrs. Parsons, an instructional assistant, The Pine Tree Press came to life!

Next year, we would like to establish a separate newspaper staff made up of 4th and 5th grade students. This structure will provide opportunities for students to conduct interviews, gather information for articles, and take photographs of events happening at Pine Tree, giving them authentic, hands-on experience in journalism. Having a school newspaper at the intermediate grade levels also supports the development of writing, communication, and teamwork skills, while fostering student voice and school pride.

We look forward to bringing The Pine Tree Press to Pine Tree students, staff, and families again next year, and we hope they enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy creating it.

Way to go, Young Leaders. Keep making a positive impact on your school and community. We can't wait to hear and read more from you in the coming years.
