Redistricting Committee Attracts a Crowd

Redistricting Committee Attracts a Crowd

Avon Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham issued a call for participation on the 2025 Redistricting Committee, and received an excellent response. Nearly 150 people volunteered to participate, including:

  • 120 parents/caregivers,
  • 20 employees,
  • and even a few students.

At the conclusion of the committee's work, they will host a community meeting at which they will present their favored redistricting options. The community will then have a chance to provide additional feedback.

The goal of the committee's work, in particular, and the redistricting effort, in general, is to ensure Avon students have access to equitable learning environments for years to come.

Many applicants shared why they were interested in participating:

I see this opportunity as a chance to understand how decisions are made but also to advocate for equitable distribution of resources among students. I anticipate meaningful discussions on topics such as start times and boundary adjustments, knowing these decisions will impact students for years to come.

I would like to be included in the redistricting effort because it not only impacts my two children but it would be an honor to have influence on what the future of our school system in Avon looks like.

I would like to ensure Avon Schools maintains a diverse and inclusive culture at all schools during the redistricting effort.

I am interested in being part of the process to learn what goes into making these decisions and how to weigh the pros and cons of redistricting which I know must take into account student population of each school, equalizing the population of low income as well as potential for supporting and equalizing those areas where English as a second language may be more predominant allowing for equal opportunities to be successful.

Participants will be notified this week and their meetings begin at the end of the month.
