So Much to Celebrate

There are so many things to celebrate in Avon Schools. 

During a jam-packed meeting of the Avon Board of School Trustees on Monday, April 13, eight separate groups and individuals were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

AHS Speech Team

The Avon High School Speech Team brought home their third consecutive 3A State Championship fifth consecutive Sectional Championship. At state, 12 students finished in the top six in their event categories and three won individual State Championships. In total, 37 students competed at State on the merits of their Sectional performances.

Doyin Akande

Doyin, a member of the State Champion Speech Team, earned an individual first-place finish in the poetry category at this spring's Indiana Schools Speech and Debate State Speech Competition.

Avon Accents

The Avon Accents won the program's second ever—and second consecutive—State Championship at the 2026 Indiana State School Music Association Show Choir State Championship in the mixed division.

Jay Desai

Jay Desai earned a first-place finish at the DECA Indiana State Career Development Conference in the financial literacy category. He advances to compete at the DECA international competition. (DECA is an international nonprofit that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.)     

Janani Devendran

Janani Devendran, a member of the State Champion Speech Team, placed first in the US extemporaneous category at this spring's Indiana Schools Speech and Debate State Speech Competition.

Chloe McCaslin

At the FCCLA State Leadership Conference this spring, Chloe McCaslin earned a silver medal in the teaching strategies category. She was selected as a national qualifier for her efforts. (FCCLA—Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America—is a national student organization for students in family and consumer sciences.)     

Eli Neal

Eli Neal secured a first-place finish at the DECA Indiana State Career Development Conference in the food marketing category. He will move on to represent AHS at the DECA international competition.

Nancy Orogun

Last, but certainly not least, AHS senior Nancy Orogun received two commendations. First, as co-captain of the State Champion Speech Team, she earned a first-place finish in the informative speaking category at the Indiana Schools Speech and Debate State Speech Competition. Second, Nancy was commended for completing her AHS career as Salutatorian of the class of 2026. Among her many accomplishments, she compiled an astounding 5.533 GPA and will be selecting between Harvard, Columbia, or University of Chicago to pursue a Biochemistry major.

Congratulations to all of these Orioles for their incredible accomplishments.
