Speech & Debate Team Members are Academic All Americans

by Linda Langford, AHS Speech & Debate Coach

Avon High School’s Speech and Debate Team is proud to celebrate the achievements of its talented members who have earned top honors from the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). Seniors Sam Johnson, Nancy Orogun, Kennedy Berry, and Noah Johnson have each received the highly coveted Academic All American Award.

The Academic All American Award is a rare distinction, earned by fewer than 2% of NSDA students nationwide each year. This honor recognizes students who achieve the degree of Superior Distinction—earning at least 750 competition points—while also completing a minimum of five semesters in high school, maintaining a GPA of 3.7 or higher, and demonstrating exemplary character and leadership.

As four-year members of the team, these students represent a wide range of events:

  • Sam Johnson competes in Humorous Interpretation and Duo and serves as our Community Captain.
  • Nancy Orogun leads the team as a Co-Head Speech Team Captain, competing in Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, and Program Oral Interpretation.
  • Kennedy Berry competes in Prose and Informative Speaking and acts as our Oratory captain.
  • Noah Johnson, Interpretation Captain, has competed in Humorous Interpretation, Impromptu, Duo, and Dramatic Interpretation.

Congratulations to these outstanding students on this remarkable accomplishment!
