Superintendent's Back-to-School Message

Superintendent's Back-to-School Message

Hello Avon families. I hope you and your children have had an enjoyable and fun summer. It’s hard to believe the start of school is just a few days away. We’ve been working hard this summer to ensure that we are ready for the start of the 2021-22 school year.

Our construction projects at Maple, Sycamore, Hickory, Pine Tree, and MS South are wrapping up. The construction crews are working overtime to get everything done for the start of school – and we are getting close. Construction will continue at White Oak Early Learning Center during the fall – but that will not disrupt our youngest learners – who are now all housed at White Oak!

We continue adding teaching positions to start the school year as we respond to increased enrollment, keep class sizes low, and meet the needs of our students.

We’ve also been working with our local health department throughout the summer. While I had high hopes that this school year might be more 'normal', it appears we’re not there yet. Please remember that masks are recommended in our schools for all those who are not yet vaccinated. We have released a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on our website. It’s certainly not as lengthy as last year's FAQ – but is where we will provide additional information beyond the infographic that has been shared throughout the summer.

Finally, be sure to check out our website at www.avon-schools.org. We’ve spent the summer updating our website to make it more stream-lined and user-friendly. The New School Year Guide is posted there which is full of information about the start of school (school calendars, contact info, school lunches, handbooks, and lots more). Don’t forget to check out your child’s school start and end times as those have likely changed from last school year.

I get as excited about the first day of school as Superintendent as I did when I was a classroom teacher. I love seeing students walking back into our schools. Thank you for your support as we launch another great school year.
