The Library Minute with Lauren
In Avon Schools, our libraries are hubs of activity. They are centers of learning, imagination, and excitement. In each issue of Oriole Blast, we'll feature a select book review by an Avon student. In addition to enjoying the chance to hear from them, maybe they'll get you hooked on a book.
My name is Lauren, and I'm a senior at Avon High School. This is my review of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Calculating, gorgeous Evelyn Hugo is ready to tell all, but only to up-and-coming writer Monique Grant. Evelyn describes her rise to fame and her life as Hollywood’s It Girl and how she came to have seven husbands. Through the eyes of Evelyn, we get a glimpse into what Old Hollywood was like and what women had to do to survive it. Taylor Jenkins Reid really knows how to grab her audience’s attention with this one, including realistic representations of diverse individuals through many of the main characters.
I would highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a new book to read or are trying to get out of a reading slump. It is fairly fast-paced and definitely keeps the reader’s attention. I can’t wait to see what Taylor Jenkins Reid writes next.
If your child is inspired to check out this recommendation, they may get it from their school library, by visiting our friends at the Avon-Washington Township Public Library or pick up a copy online.
