What are Avon educators and staff members doing on May 1?

Historically, we've held our annual e-learning day in November. This year, the scheduled event was moved to May 1. Why? For Avon employees, it's all about building momentum for the upcoming school year.

Avon Schools is committed to making the transition to the 2025-26 school year as smooth as possible.

As you recall, we completed plans for a major k-8 redistricting project earlier this school year to allow us to make room for more students in the coming years. A big part of the project required shifting away from our grade 5-6 intermediate school model. All elementary schools will now serve students in kindergarten through grade 5 and our middle schools will serve students in grades 6-8. Avon Intermediate School East and West will become Evergreen and Willow Elementary School, respectively, and we're opening Avon Middle School West this summer.

These changes required a number of educators and support staff to move from one school and/or grade level to another, and it is important to be intentional about building culture — team spirit — so next school year gets off to a strong start in each school.

A big part of the May 1 e-learning day will allow newly formed school teams to gather in their new buildings. The bonds they'll begin to form will help to ensure, ultimately, that students succeed next year.
