Meet Your Counselor

Hi, I am Paul Quirke, one of the counselors at Avon Middle School South.  I spent my first five years as an elementary school counselor in Avon before moving to Avon Middle School. I also completed my year-long internship at Avon High School before being hired as an elementary counselor. I grew up in Michigan where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Michigan State University. I then moved to Indiana to earn my master’s degree in Counseling/Counselor Education from Indiana University. My time is spent announcing, watching, and attending sporting events; playing golf or bowling; and relaxing.

Hello, My name is Myia Girton one of the counselors at Avon Middle School South.

School Counseling FAQ

What do students have to do to see to see a counselor?

Students may stop in the guidance office and sign up to see their counselor. If the counselor is unavailable at that time, the student will be called down as soon as possible. Parents and/or teachers may also request that a student meet with their guidance counselor. The school counselor will call down those students who have been referred to them as soon as possible.

What are some reasons a student sees the counselor?

Students may see the counselor for academic reasons. These may include problems with their schedule or difficulty in a class. They may also see their counselor for personal reasons such as a conflict with another student, problems between friends, stress, or family problems. Overall, anything that might interfere with the student doing his or her job at school is a reason to come to the Guidance Department.
