New Avon Intermediate School West Principal Named

The Avon Community School Corporation (ACSC) Board has named Mrs. Amber K. Walters as the new Principal at Avon Intermediate School West (AIS West) effective January 21, 2019.  

Mrs. Walters, an Avon resident, has built a successful career in education. She currently serves as the principal of Nora Elementary School in MSD Washington Township where she led staff and students to improve the Nora school letter grade from an F to a B. She was also named the 2017-18 Administrator of the Year for the district. 

“As an Avon resident, Mrs. Walters brings a hometown perspective which complements her experience as a principal of an elementary school rich with diversity and achievement,” said ACSC Superintendent Dr. Maggie Hoernemann. “She impressed our selection team of staff, parents, and administrators with her high expectations coupled with a nurturing focus on the whole child.” 

Mrs. Walters is succeeding Dr. Dustin LeMay who was appointed ACSC's Director of Teaching and Learning.

“I am truly honored to become the next principal of Avon Intermediate School West,” stated Mrs. Walters. “I am excited to walk alongside the students, staff and families of Avon Intermediate School West and continue to build upon their legacy of excellence.”

In addition to serving at MSD Washington Township, Mrs. Walters was an educator at Brownsburg Community School Corporation and Wake County Public School System (NC). She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Indiana State University and an M.A.E. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University.
