Meeting recap

Third FAN meeting Recap (10/29/19)

-The Student Social Committee and the "I-Scream" Social was discussed.  Parent volunteers were recruited for the event on 10/30.  Be on the lookout for other volunteer requests!
-Like the bookstore.  A signup genius was sent in Parent Square if you are interested in volunteering.
-The Back to School Night survey is being published. We look forward to discussing the results!
-Our 7th grade counselor, Andrea Davasher, talked about all the apps available to parents (PowerSchool, Schoology, ParentSquare) and answered questions.  Especially about notifications and the option of update digest emails.  If you have any questions, please reach out! Her email is ALDavasher@avon-schools.org
-Staff was very concerned about being overwhelming with updates, reminders, and requests.  Parents all said don't hesitate, send things out repeatedly as it helps them remember.  If it doesn't concern them, they just ignore it.

Second FAN meeting RECAP (9/24/19)
-Due to the desire of ways for their students to be more social, a new club was formed called Social Committee (like Student Council but focusing on the social events). Their first meeting was after school on 9/26.
-The activity and culture survey results were shown and discussed.  Also a rough draft on the Back to School Night survey was reviewed.  This will go out to parents ASAP.
-The Bookstore Volunteer signup was also finalized and published. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F044BA5AC2BA1FA7-bookstore We discussed how teachers will be using Parent Square to reach out about individual volunteer needs.
-Lastly, a club list is being finalized for the new year and will be published ASAP.

First FAN meeting RECAP (8/27/19):
After the spring 2019 survey, staff wanted to make North a more welcoming place!  There is an abrupt change from elementary/intermediate to middle school.

One way that was discussed: having a parent night for the transition to middle school.  There is the spring parent meeting for incoming 7th graders that is very regimented and academic.  Parents would like to have an “Emotional Support Night”  next month after labor day.  A more informal, get to know us, the building, and other parents.  A time to ask the questions they didn’t know they had at Back to School night.

Parents desire:
a list of supports or apps, and maybe some reminders on how to login/use them
a list of clubs to encourage their kids to join
more ways for their kids to be social outside of school with their new classmates.  (They may be on a team or in 6 classes with a lot of kids they do not know from previous years.  How are we helping them socially adjust and make friends in a positive way?)
